Join us on September 18 for conversation, community, and creative reuse with Salt Lake City textiles artist Willow Weaver.
This event will run from 6–8 pm and begin with a formal showing of Willow’s premier textile piece “Scraps of Mother”, followed by an artist talk and Q&A beginning at 6:15pm, concluded with a group materials processing activity and mingling period while we learn some of Willow’s self-taught methods for recycling materials to use in weaving, or other textiles work.
If you have access to a pair of fabric scissors, please bring those with you, as supply may be limited.

Entry is by optional donation starting at $1. Please donate what you can comfortably afford.
If you would like to donate textiles waste, used clothes, or plastics, please drop them off at Make Well prior to September 18 or bring them along. We’ll be acting as a temporary collection point for materials Willow can use in future work.

About the Artist
My name is Willow, I’m a textiles artist creating large-scale work using recycled and trash materials headed towards landfill in the SLC area. I consider myself an environmental activist and I am deeply curious about how the Great Salt Lake has become the symbolic center of the US’ environmental crisis.
I believe structures that function well under patriarchy exploit the land for regulation and excess, which mirrors the experience of a victim of sexual abuse and domestic violence. I use recognizable materials like old clothes and found objects from nature in my work to bring viewers to an acute presence with their bodies and surroundings in grief and nostalgia.
I believe sitting with grief is the only way the world can heal, as it has been the only path to love with safety in my own life.
